Improve Your Running

t is the morning, and the alarm is going off. You are looking at the numbers on the clock and it says 5:30am. You are warm, and you know that you could hit the snooze button or just turn off the alarm and get some more sleep. Yet, you are a runner; you enjoy hitting the pavement with your shoes and feeling the cool breeze against you as you are cruising down the road. Why do runners do it? Why do runners get up morning after morning and fight all manner of elements in order to get in their miles?

For anyone who has run, it is contagious. If you will talk to any runner they will tell you about the runner’s high. This high experienced by runners helps them to get out of bed each morning and run. It also helps them to continue to run each day in order to help them control their weight. Studies have also shown that the runner’s high is a great natural depression control technique; it won’t get rid of depression but will help people to live with depression. What happens to trigger this natural high? New studies focusing on brain imaging have shown that when a person is running the brain will release a concentration of endorphins into the brain. This natural high helps people to focus and helps them to keep their weight management programs going.

There are other things that you can do to help yourself to get more out of your running. A healthy diet is essential to any weight management success. You want to plan a diet that is high in good complex carbohydrates and proteins. Also you want to supplement this diet with vitamins and minerals, plus you also might want to add healthy fats to your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are great for runners who are looking for ways to give their bodies more endurance. Omega-3 fatty acids aren’t produced naturally in the human body and can only enter through digestion. Fish and organ meats are very concentrated with these Omega-3 fatty acids. Taking a supplement with fish oil will help you to get the amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids that your body needs. Studies have shown that athletes who take Omega-3 fatty acids are able to compete longer compared to those people that don’t have Omega-3 fatty acids in their systems. This is due to the fact that Omega-3 fatty acids help your blood to carry more oxygen, and strengthen the muscles which are in the cardiovascular system. The studies also indicated that it takes weeks for the muscles to absorb the Omega-3 fatty acids so it is important to take a steady dosage.

Runners will try to do just about anything to help them to get more enjoyment out of their daily runs. They will purchase digital music players that are linked to their shoes in order to get a better running stride, and they will buy all kinds of clothing made out of all different types of materials that are suppose to help the body cool more effectively. What runners really need to do is think about their diet to get more out of their running.
